Available menu actions
Little Snitch 4.4.3
Choose Little Snitch Preferences from the status menu and switch to the Network Monitor section. There you can change the appearance of the status menu icon: Show network activity in menu bar — With this option turned on the status menu shows an animated traffic meter. This feature was introduced in Apple’s Catalina update, but certain tools (like Little Snitch) could be used to bypass it. Now, with Big Sur, there’s no practical way for average Mac users to. The newer Little Snitch 4 looks rather nice interface-wise. Some new things that might get me more inclined to use this app in the future. Basically I'm all over the place with opinions and have no clear agenda other than to perhaps dive in and experience Little Snitch yourself.
The status menu provides access to frequently used options:
- Opening Network Monitor, Little Snitch Configuration and Preferences.
- Switching between Silent Mode and Alert Mode.
- Activate profiles.
- Drag an application on the status menu icon to create a new rule for it.
- Valid for Little Snitch 4 running on macOS Catalina and earlier Valid for Little Snitch 5 running on macOS Big Sur Note: Little Snitch 5 requires macOS Big Sur.

Configuration options
Choose Little Snitch Preferences from the status menu and switch to the Network Monitor section. There you can change the appearance of the status menu icon:
- Show network activity in menu bar — With this option turned on the status menu shows an animated traffic meter.
- Show data rates as numerical values — With this option turned on the status menu shows data rates as numerical values in addition to the traffic meter.
- Color scheme — Choose whether to display traffic meters in color (red and green) or monochrome.

- Show status in menu bar — Choose whether the status menu shall be shown at all.
- Show inactivity warning — With this option turned on the status menu displays a yellow warning triangle when the network filter is off.
